During the UN Security Councils open debate on youth, peace and security, many participants recognized the potential of young people to serve as agents for change, and observed that boosting opportunities for youth is critical in counteracting terrorism, extremism and violence. Participants also welcomed the independent progress study on youth and peace and security, titled, The missing peace: independent progress study on youth and peace and security, the first-ever report of its kind.
