Dr. Doris Mutta is a Senior Programme Officer at the African Forest Forum and project manager for a project on Strengthening management and use of forest ecosystems for sustainable development in Africa. She holds a PhD degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Strathclyde, Scotland, an MSc degree in Botany from the University of British Columbia, Canada and a BSc degree in Forestry from Moi University, Kenya.

She is a forest scientist with over 30 years of professional experience in research and management of forestry, coastal, and marine ecosystems in several institutions in Africa in various capacities. Her research focuses on forestry management, forest-based value chain analysis, forest-based livelihoods and poverty eradication, indigenous knowledge and traditional medicine, and integrating agrobiodiversity into national development in Africa.

She previously worked with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) as Projects Officer, Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI) as the Centre Director Coast region, and the African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS) as PhD Fellow focusing on science-based management, policy and institutional analyses. She has provided significant technical contributions to development of policy documents for governments and intergovernmental processes on management of forestry, coastal and marine ecosystems in Africa.
