It will be held in Yerevan and will comprise high-level delegates from CBD Parties, alongside civil society, Indigenous Peoples, businesses, and researchers, to deliberate under the theme "Taking Action for Nature." COP17 marks the first Global Review of collective progress under the KMGBF since its adoption at COP15, alongside the 12th Meeting of the Cartagena Protocol (CP-MOP-12) and the 6th Meeting of the Nagoya Protocol (NP-MOP-6).
Objectives
- Global Review: Assess whether Parties are on track to meet the KMGBF's 2030 biodiversity targets.
- Resource Mobilization: Advance financing mechanisms, including operationalizing the Cali Fund for digital sequence information benefit-sharing.
- Policy Coherence: Strengthen cooperation between the CBD, UNFCCC, and other biodiversity-related processes.
Expected Outcomes
- The first Global Review report on KMGBF implementation.
- Decisions on resource mobilization and the financial mechanism, including the Cali Fund.
- A Gender Action Plan and updated guidance on synthetic biology and wildlife management.
