30th United Nations Climate Change Conference 2025 (UNFCCC COP30)

Event 2025-11-10 - 2025-11-21 - Belém, Pará, Brazil

The 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) is scheduled to take place from November 10 to 21, 2025, in Belém, Pará, Brazil. This marks the first time the conference will be held in the Amazon region, highlighting the critical role of tropical forests in global climate discussions.

Key Themes and Objectives

COP30 aims to address several pivotal areas in the global climate agenda:

  • Tropical Forest Conservation: Emphasizing the protection of vital ecosystems like the Amazon and Congo Basin.
  • REDD+ and Carbon Markets: Advancing frameworks for reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation.
  • Climate Finance: Mobilizing funds to support forest preservation and sustainable land use.
  • Indigenous Rights: Recognizing and supporting the role of Indigenous communities in forest stewardship.

A significant initiative expected at COP30 is the launch of the Tropical Forest Forever Facility (TFFF), a proposed $125 billion blended-finance investment fund aimed at rewarding forest conservation in tropical countries.

Venue and Logistics

The conference will be held at the City Park / Hangar Convention and Exhibition Centre in Belém.

Given the anticipated attendance of over 50,000 delegates, including world leaders and high-ranking officials, the Brazilian government is undertaking extensive preparations to accommodate participants. This includes infrastructure projects such as the construction of new hotels and the expansion of the Belém/Val-de-Cans International Airport.

Global Participation and Expectations

COP30 is expected to bring together representatives from nearly 200 countries to negotiate global goals for tackling climate change, present their individual countries’ plans for contributing to those goals, and report on their progress.

The conference will also serve as a platform to assess progress since the Paris Agreement and to push for more ambitious climate action to limit global warming to 1.5°C.
