20th Ordinary Session of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN-20)

Hosted by the Government of the State of Libya, the 20th Ordinary Session of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN-20) will take place in Nairobi, Kenya, from 14 to 18 July 2025. This landmark session commemorates the 40th anniversary of AMCEN, established in Cairo in 1985.
Theme:
“Four Decades of Environmental Action in Africa: Reflecting on the Past and Imagining the Future.”
Expected Outcomes:
The 20th Ordinary Session aims to produce the following outcomes:
- Political Declaration and Key Decisions: Articulation of African common positions ahead of upcoming global environmental forums.
- Environmental Priorities (2025–2027): Identification of focus areas for AMCEN over the next biennium.
- AMCEN@40 High-Level Statement: A reflection on four decades of environmental governance in Africa and forward-looking policy recommendations.
