Under the general supervision of the Forestry manager, Caretakers participate in tasks related to the maintenance of trees within park sites, along road & bridge rights-of-ways, and along hike & bike trails within Precinct One.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Fell trees using chainsaws and other equipment
Prune and cut trees
Safely operate equipment such as chainsaws, pole pruner saws, stump grinders
Safely operate vehicles such as pick-up trucks and aerial lift bucket trucks
High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
Valid driver’s license (Texas upon hire) with a safe driving record
No fear of heights
Good knowledge of tools, materials, equipment, and procedures required to perform tasks
Ability to follow written and oral instructions, and work well with others
Ability to operate chainsaws, stump grinders, pole pruner saws, and motor vehicles such as pick-up trucks and aerial lift bucket trucks
Applicant will be required to obtain a Texas Commercial Driver’s License, Class B, within 90 days of hire.
Environmental and Physical Requirements:
Good physical condition and agility needed to perform strenuous tasks under varying weather conditions; extreme cold, extreme heat and wet and/or humid conditions.
Ability to frequently stand, walk, and use hands to operate equipment or controls
Ability to frequently lift and move 10 pounds, and frequently lift and move 25 pounds
Ability to work in an environment with a loud noise level

A minimum of two (2) years of experience in tree maintenance, tree cutting techniques, or chainsaw operation
A valid Texas CDL with Class B endorsement
DEPARTMENT: Harris County Precinct One – Parks Department
40 Hours per Week, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm / Monday- Friday
Based on 26 Pay Periods
