The African Forest Forum is providing short term post-doctoral fellowship/sabbatical fellowships/internships of 2 months for two postgraduate African scholars/fellows; researchers and professionals. The fellowships aims to strengthen knowledge and skills of the African forest/environmental based professionals on sustainable forest management and climate change in African forestry; in addition to generating specific products for AFF.
 
The Call
The fellow(s) will be recruited to undertake the following tasks:
1. Organise, edit, and finalise draft articles for publication as a special issue or issues of a journal
2. Liaise with authors of such articles in case some revisions require their attention
3. Undertake reviews of reports and book chapters under preparation
4. Finalise (including language editing) draft policy briefs and fact sheets for uploading on AFF’s website
5. Any other related tasks from the AFF Secretariat
The fellowship will be provided to African scholars/fellows; researchers and professionals based in African institutions of higher learning as well as those working in relevant forestry based research institutions to support their post-doctoral/sabbatical leave/internship away from their working institutions.
 
Eligibility
Applicants must meet the general and the specific eligibility criteria outlined below. Applications that do not meet eligibility criteria will not receive further evaluation.
General eligibility criteria
(i) Be a citizen of an African nation;
(ii) Evidence on whether he/she has undertaken similar work;
(iii) All application materials must be complete and received by the AFF Secretariat on or before the application deadline.
 
Specific eligibility criteria
(i) Have a doctoral degree (Ph.D) plus at least five years of professional experience related to either of the following: forestry, natural resource management, climate change in forestry;
(ii) Have a demonstrated broad understanding and experience on forestry issues and the external environment to forestry, and
(iii) Proven excellent analytical skills and English writing skills
 
Fellowship Terms
The level of compensation is commensurate with the experience and expertise. Further, the fellows will be supported with medical insurance cover for the duration of the assignment, return air ticket (where applicable) and accommodation expenses for the period attached at AFF.

Deadlines
(i) Applications must be received by the Secretariat before or by 10 October 2017;
(ii) Successful candidates (2) should report no later than 1 November 2017; and
(iii) Results of the selection panel will be announced to successful applicants by 12 October 2017.
 
Fellowship period
Duration: This is a 2-month position that requires physical presence at the African Forest Forum Secretariat located at the campus of the World Agro forestry Centre (ICRAF), in Nairobi, Kenya.
Appointment: The selected candidate is expected to report on 1 November 2017. An earlier start date is also possible
