Community of Practice: AfCFTA's Role in Promoting Sustainable Intra-African Timber Trade for Inclusive Green Growth

Event 2025-06-30 - 2025-07-11 - Virtual (via Howspace)

This Community of Practice will convene stakeholders from across Africa to explore the intersection of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), intra-African timber trade, and green growth strategies. The discussions aim to strengthen collaboration and policy alignment in support of sustainable and inclusive development across the continent.

Objectives

  1. Knowledge Exchange: Provide a platform for stakeholders to share experiences, insights, and lessons learned on intra-African timber trade, the AfCFTA, and green growth strategies being implemented in African countries.
  2. Strategic Alignment: Identify potential entry points for integrating timber into national green growth strategies and explore how these can be aligned with the AfCFTA to promote sustainable and equitable timber trade across Africa.

Expected Outcomes

  • A clear understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing intra-African timber trade, as perceived by stakeholders.
  • An overview of existing green growth strategies in African countries, including identified entry points for timber sector integration.

This CoP aims to inform future policy discussions and contribute to developing a cohesive framework that leverages AfCFTA for climate-resilient and sustainable trade in timber products across the continent.
