AFF renews commitment to strengthen partnerships in Kenya

Nairobi. On 9-10 July 2024, the AFF Executive Secretary – CEO, Prof. Labode Popoola and Secretariat staff paid courtesy visits to selected partners in Kenya, to get acquainted with their respective programmes and explore areas of mutual collaboration.

The visits were to:

  • Wahida Shah, Senior Regional Technical Advisor who leads UNDP’s Climate and Forests team in Africa, – on behalf of the Coordinator of the Resilience Hub for Africa.
  • Anthony Ngororano, Resident Representative, Kenya – UNDP and Ms. Evelyn Koech, Head of Environment & Resilience at UNDP Kenya.
  • Gabriel Labbate, Head of the Climate Mitigation Unit at UNEP (and global Lead for UNEP UN-REDD) and Mirey Atallah, Head of the Adaptation and Resilience Branch of the UNEP Climate Change Division
  • Emilio Mugo, Chair, National Environment Management Authority (NEMA)
  • Felister Wambugha Makini, Deputy Director General [Crops], – on behalf of the Director General/CEO of KALRO, Dr. Eliud Kiplimo Kireger
  • Jane Njuguna, Acting Director and Secretary to the Board of Kenya Environment and Forestry Research Institute(KEFRI).

Through the interactions, AFF renewed its commitment in deepening strategic partnerships – crucial for advancing sustainable forest management in Africa. “The partnerships bring together complementary resources, expertise and skills, and provide the opportunity to harness different organisations’ competence and comparative advantages for the benefit of a common vision,” said Prof. Labode Popoola, Executive Secretary-CEO, AFF.
