We are currently seeking a full-time, experienced Faller/Equipment Operator to join our Forestry team at the District of Mission.
We are seeking an energetic and motivated individual to perform a variety of forestry operational, maintenance and servicing tasks related to the Districts Municipal Forest including: falling and bucking of trees; harvesting felled trees and timber, constructing, maintaining and inspecting recreation trails, campsites; erecting and maintaining signs and forestry road gates in the Municipal Forest. You will have experience operating a rubber-tired skidder, excavator or similar machine in conventional and environmentally sensitive areas; performing fire patrols; maintaining forestry equipment; assisting with road maintenance, road right-of-way clearing and road, culvert and bridge construction; performing activities related to recreation programs and fire protection including slash burning, debris disposal and fire-fighting, as required.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 3 years experience in a coastal forestry environment performing related duties, including mechanized falling. You will have knowledge in the practical aspects of road, culvert and trail maintenance along with current occupational health and safety standards for a forestry operation. You will possess a BCFSC Certified Faller Certificate (or equivalent training and experience for eligibility); valid BC drivers license (Class 5); valid OFA1 certificate with transportation endorsement and BC Wildfire Service S-100 Basic Fire Suppression and Safety training.
The 2018 wage rate for this CUPE position is $34.87 per hour plus an excellent benefit package upon completion of probation. This position works a 4-day work schedule from Monday to Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
