ModeratorGood morning Robert. You raised interesting points yesterday about the need for developing countries to play a far more proactive role in the development and financing of their NDCs. You suggest greater attention to developing more detailed NDCs as well as commitments to domestic finance as a means to better attract and effectively unlock flows of international finance. This also places developing countries in the driving seat of their own processes of climate-smart development

ModeratorI would also like to pick up on the need for funding and technical support to NDC development processes raised by Mezgebu. Please share your experiences on adequacy of support programmes and their limitations, for example the The UNDP-NDC Support Programme mentioned in Session 1.

ModeratorThanks for the important insights you have shared, Mezgebu. I agree that to address the challenges facing the world now, strong and urgent action is needed with attention to root causes and drivers, and that these are cross-sectoral. To what extent are the insights and exhortations shared by Mezgebu reflected in NDCs? Are we paying enough attention to climate smart, and sustainable agriculture and the restoration of diverse ecosystems or are we loading everything onto forests?

ModeratorGood morning and welcome to our ongoing session on forest-based measures included in NDCs. Thanks Robert for your detailed overview on the importance of the forestry sector in climate change mitigation and adaptation. We invite contributions from participants on any of the topics below relating to forest-based mitigation and adaptation measures:
• Sharing examples from current NDCs
• How these relate to country policies, context and priorities
• Extent of buy-in and involvement of key actors/sectors in formulating these mitigation measures
• Funding requirements and sources of finance to implement the mitigation measures
• Structures for accounting, reporting, measurement and verification
• Challenges in the implementation of mitigation measures and any other related issues -

ModeratorI am noting the point made by Sambo above about how very significant land forest based activities are in African NDCs – the huge contribution to total emissions and the key role land and forest based resources play in livelihood support, underscoring the importance of adaptation measures to sustain these. Could we say LULUCF measures are the very heart of NDC in Africa?
