Since 2007, TREE AID has led a forest governance project in Burkina Faso, which aims to provide some of the poorest communities in the country with secure access to sustainably-managed, communal forest resources. The project currently covers 97 villages in 8 communes with more than 42,000 people directly support, of whom at least 52% are women. The number of people indirectly benefitting from the project is estimated at more than 180,000.

The project is helping rural communities to implement forest management plans with recognised user rights and train people to develop sustainable village tree enterprises. It is also ensuring that the most vulnerable people using the forest are more involved in local decision making.
